The summer of sport is kicking off this weekend with the Olympic Games Rio 2016, seeped in a sea of fanfare and festivities that is being celebrated across the globe.
The party gets underway on Saturday (UAE time) with a star-studded opening ceremony at Rio’s Maracana Stadium.
According to media reports, 3,000 have already seen the dress rehearsal to the main event and it is as dramatic as one can expect it to be.
But, don’t fret if you can’t cut a ticket for Brazil. Because Dubai has rolled out its own red carpet to allow you to tune into the action at the friendly neighbourhood hangout:
Art-deco at Atelier M
Pier 7, Dubai Marina
It really has been four years since the London Olympics and this summer, the fun moves on to Rio and Atelier M’s art-deco restaurant. So if you will not be heading out to Brazil to cheer your team, then catch the action across multiple screens in the lounge.
McGettigan Monster Burger Challenge
Bring out those sweats and hunker down for this monster challenge once again, all while you are sneaking in a cheer or three for your favourite team on the telly.
Yes indeed, the meaty burger challenge has returned on the McGettigan’s menu, and a look at that monster will convince you that you need Olympian efforts to take it on.
The challenge is simple, should you choose to accept it. 32oz. of delicious burger and 32 minutes to finish it. For Dh199 you can take on the challenge, but if you manage to complete it, the burger is free.

Media One Hotel
Before you look at the Mercury and scratch this outdoor venue off the list, let us quickly point out that 12 air-conditions have been deployed to keep this stunning terrace chilled for the summer.
As you bellow at the screen, the folks at Media One have also rolled out a new with signature dishes such as Grilled Scottish Salmon and puy lentil salad, or even the Snickers and Oreo Chocolate Cake as your dessert.
Back to Barasti
Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina
What’s a sporting tournament of such proportions without a visit to arguably the best beach bar in the world?
Everyone’s favourite Barasti is of course tuning its big screen in the air-conditioned tent to catch the Olympic action. Seven smaller LEDs are also positioned in the main restaurant, while the couches have their own two LEDs.
Weekly drink and meal specials also apply on different days of the week.
Crop it up at Harvester’s
Crowne Plaza Hotel
The watering hole, which was a firm favourite during the recently concluded Euro 2016, is definitely the place to be at if you want to avoid the pretentious crowd and just pop in for a beverage and celebrate the love for sport.
Wooden furnishings, giant screens, easy on the pocket, what’s not to love here?
